Kefalonia Beaches
Many of the beaches on Kefalonia are beautiful, some are easily accessible by car and these do tend to be more popular. However, as we suggested in our Guide to Fiskado with kids you can hire a boat and then those less accessible beaches become easy and in many cases yours alone for the day.

When picking these beaches we wanted ones that are either worth the trip or area really easy to visit with the kids so here we go our favourite kid-friendly beaches on Kefalonia.
1. Xi
This is my personal favourite beach. I remember visiting it as a child and my brother and I playing in the shallow waters on the gold sand for hours and hours.
It's around 30km from Argostoli the capital and 10km from Lixouri but there is public transport to get you there or you can go by car.
We've rated this as number one, as it is sand not pebbles, there are facilities for families including umbrellas and shade, plus a big bonus is that the water is shallow so ideal for you and the kids to play in whilst you hit the sand.
2. Makris Gialos Beach
This is the nearest popular beach to Argostoli near the town of Lassi.

It's great for kids our toddler loved to play in the sand and it is normally fairly calm.
Like many of the beaches though it can get a little busy especially as Lassi is a very popular destination for families. Arrive early or late in the afternoon and miss out the biggest crowds.
3. Skala
Skala another popular tourist destination has a great beach for families. It's a mix of pebbles and sand.
However, as it's much longer and open that Makris Gialos Beach you can find space there to enjoy the day.
There are umbreallas and sun loungers plus behind the beach across the road you will find a great selection of resturants, cafes, shops and supermarkets.
4. AntiSamos
Made famous by Captain Corelli's Mandalin film Antisamos is near to the port of Sami and a lovely little beach. It has more pebbles than the ones above but with crystal blue waters and a beautiful view it is worth a visit.
Why not visit this after taking a trip on Melissani Lake as it's within the same area and you can enjoy both with the kids.
5. Myrtos Beach
Possibly one of the most famous beach views on Kefalonia this is a really beautiful beach. It's a little more natural than the others. But, unlike some of the more remote ones you can get sun loungers.

This is not a sandy beach though instead, it is pebbly, and the drive down to the beach is a little scary with the hairpin bends. But the water can be crystal blue and clear and with kids that are strong swimmers, it's a great place to explore.
We say strong swimmers as because of where it is located on the island at times it has very strong currents so you really need to take care, especially with your younger kids.
