When we travel with kids we very rarely stay in hotels instead we are drawn to self-catered accommodation like apartments or villas. On Kefalonia the last few times we have stayed at the Olive Garden Apartments in Lassi.

Olive Garden Apartments - Lassi
One of the reasons that this appealed to us when we first visited back in 2005 was that unlike some of the other accommodations available in Lassi this was relatively small.
There are only 26 appartments in the complex that share the bar and pool area whereas many of the others in the resort have lots more.
With an amazing view looking down at the Ionian sea it's ideal to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main town.

Facilities at Olive Garden Apartments
There is a pool bar which serves food at set times during the day. Like burgers or similar.

The pool is fairly large with a deep end as well as shallow. It's surrounded by sun loungers and although height of summer it is busier than at the beginning and end of season we were still able to find room for ourselves.
Rooms at Olive Garden Apartments
These are divided into 5 different room types. We've stayed in a Studio for 2 (with a cot bed) and also a one bedroom apartment.
We did have a look at the 2 bedroom apartments last visit to see whether they would be good for our family as it was growing.
Within the studio and the one bedroom apartment there was everything you basically need.
A small kitchenette where we were able to cook some light food but to be honest both times we ate out more than we ate in so it was mainly used to store some drinks and prepare breakfast as well as snacks for our toddler when we visited with him.
The downside of Olive Garden Apartments
So although we love it and have returned to it again and if we return to the island we will likely stay here a third time there is a big drawback for many.
I actually think it's one of the reasons why we find it so nice!
But it's right at the top of a hill! The only way to get to Lassi is to go down the hill. Which is fine but it is the getting back that can be difficult.
Because of the location you either need to have a hire car - which we did for both trips for a short period of time.

Or like us you can walk down to Lassi town and then catch a taxi up. The walk down wasn't too bad even when pushing a buggy.
However, the walk back up being pregnant the second time and pushing a buggy was a bit too much for me and we managed to hire a taxi half way up.

Summary
We loved visiting Olive Garden Apartments in Lassi so much that we have been twice, once as a couple and again as a family with grandparents and a toddler. The rooms are clean and comfortable as well as a great pool and a pool bar with friendly staff and delicious food. The views from the pool and many of the apartments are stunning due to the hillside location but this does provide the one drawback as well as the benefit. You are at the top of a hill and the nearest other facilities are at the bottom of the hill! We would recommend it for people that like a more peaceful holiday and as a step between hiring your own villa on the island of Kefalonia or staying in a resort because it is small and quieter than many of the others we looked at in and around Lassi.
Pros
- Stunning views down over the Ionian Sea (including some amazing sunsets)
- Delicious food served in the pool bar
- Great pool that the twice we have been there hadn't been crowded at all
- Clean rooms that provide everything you need for a simple stay
Cons
- The hill that provides the stunning views also is the only way to get to the main resort of Lassi which is fine going down but it is steep so we would advise a taxi especially when visiting with kids
