The UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) World Heritage sites are found around the world and are legally protected for their cultural, historic, scientific or other significance to the world.
Because of their nature, they are great places to explore with the kids and they will find them fascinating no two are the same so don't think because you have visited one you have visited them all!

Most associated with beaches the island of Mallorca has a World Heritage site that is great to explore with the kids and can take you away from the beaches. Check out our top 3 things to do with kids in the region and see what this protected area has to offer for families that like to explore.
Exploring Gorges, Caves and Natural Wonders with Kids
Our kids love to explore Natural Wonders as do we. They can go on foot, by train or even by boat and these let kids get a small glimpse at how our earth was formed a big of learning mixed in with the exploring too!

Possibly not the most spectacular of the caves we have visited but it is worth a visit Drogarati cave is a huge cavern and if you are on the island of Kefalonia then it really is worth a visit.

Also on the island of Kefalonia but unlike Drogarati above Melissani Lake is flooded. Take a boat and hear about the discovery and how the cave was formed. If you are very lucky you will also get serenaded by your captain as you are rowed around the underground lake.

Get off the tourist trail and head to the Avakas Gorge and explore this natural wonder on the island of Cyprus. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes, carry your water and be wowed by the rocks that you see along the way.
Exploring Countries and Areas with Kids
For some destinations we stay in 1 location and then visit from there some areas for exploring, adventuring and learning.
On other trips, we explore as a family a region by road, rail or sail from small areas of larger countries to whole countries. Check them out below

Exploring by Train with Kids
We love to explore by train and when possible take short and long train journeys with the kids.

One of the first train journeys we took was through the amazing UNESCO World Heritage site of Serra de Tramuntana on the island of Mallorca. Find out more about the Vintage Train from Palma to Soller and the Tram down to Puerto de Soller with our guide.
